When the weather’s bad and the kids are bouncing off the walls, I look to indoor venues that will work up a sweat. Following are venues that do not require memberships or class attendance, just drop in and play!
Note: During school holidays like spring break, some bounce houses expand the open bounce times. At other times, they close their regular open bounce times; please check the Web sites or call to verify hours of operation for the day you plan to visit. All require parental supervision, socks to play in the inflatables and a signed waiver. Many also do not allow outside food and drink.

There’s drop-in open play at Wee Play in Herndon. I haven’t been to the open play, but I have been to birthday parties there and they have a very nice space.
Check out their website: http://www.weeplayinfo.com/id44.html

Potomac Mills’ kids’ club, Kidgits, meets in the mall at 10 am on the third Thursday of every month for story time and activities with Ms. Maureen. Starbucks provides treats and refreshments and Mary Kay provides goodie bags for the moms. All Kidgits events are free and open to the public, but Kidgits members receive special perks and goodies for only $5 per child, per year. We welcome you to come over and join in the fun!

We love the At Play Cafe in Reston. Supervised play for $8/kid. Moms can play too or can read magazines, eat, whatever. You have to stay there with your kid but at least you get a little mental break.

Monica, I love At Play Cafe too; I was surprised to see they had people watching the kids inside the play area, or at least they did when they first opened. Because they’re so toddler and preschool friendly, I listed them on my Preschool Play page, http://supernovamom.wordpress.com/theme-travel/nova-preschooler-play-new/.

If you tired of the sheer ghetto-ness of mass produced pizza and cartoon character chains or other “FunPlex” bounce houses in VA & MD area and don’t want to see money fly out your hands into mindless games for cheap toys, Kids N Motion is a HUGE breath of fresh air for Woodbridge, VA child party facilities. During a recent birthday party, our group had exclusive use of a large inflatable play area under the watchful eye of two trained, enthusiastic and professional attendants. After play time we went to a clean party room for pizza and cake (parents provided) served with a smile by the same attendants. My child received a water bottle with a small gift. The kids didn’t want to leave and slept all the way home. For the first time in three years I didn’t have a headache and wasn’t saying “never again” on the way home. Kids N Motions gets two thumbs up! I pray that they don’t change their business model! This parent certainly appreciates the high standards and outstanding service.
